This kitchen nook was built for a beach house.
Because it required a curved slat back, a curved jig was made to form the back, then layers of rubber ply were laid up until the glue had set. Then the back rails were cut out, veneered and edged in solid wood.
The seat base frame is all solid wood and all the wood parts were stained very dark. The seat cushion is laid up foam and covered with a black leather like fabric.
The round table is fixed to the floor. To facilitate getting in and out from the seating, the table top is mounted to an offset ball bearing circular race, so it can swing into the open position. It is held in it’s fixed position by rare earth magnets.
